SSC CGL 2026 Notification: Quick Recap
The SSC CGL 2026 notification was released on 21 May 2026 for 12,256 tentative vacancies across Group B and Group C posts in central government departments. The Tier 1 exam is scheduled for August–September 2026, with Tier 2 tentatively set for December 2026. Exact shift-wise dates are released separately by SSC — keep checking ssc.gov.in directly.
SSC CGL Tier 1 Syllabus 2026
Tier 1 is a Computer-Based Test (CBT) with 100 questions across 4 sections, each carrying 50 marks. Negative marking: 0.50 marks per wrong answer.
🧠 General Intelligence & Reasoning
Analogies, classification, series, coding-decoding, blood relations, direction sense, syllogism, matrix, word formation, non-verbal reasoning (figure completion, paper folding).
🌍 General Awareness
Static GK (history, geography, polity, economy, science) + current affairs. GA now appears in Tier 2 as well — treat it as a year-round subject, not a last-month cram.
📐 Quantitative Aptitude
Number systems, simplification, percentage, profit & loss, ratio-proportion, average, time-speed-distance, time & work, algebra, geometry, mensuration, trigonometry, data interpretation.
📝 English Comprehension
Grammar (error spotting, fill in the blanks, sentence improvement), vocabulary (synonyms, antonyms, one-word substitution, idioms), reading comprehension passages.
SSC CGL Tier 2 Syllabus 2026
Tier 2 tests the same four subject areas in greater depth and adds two additional modules:
💻 Computer Knowledge Module
Basics of hardware/software, internet, MS Office, networking fundamentals. Mandatory for all posts.
⌨️ Data Entry Speed Test (DEST)
Required for specific posts only. Tests typing speed and accuracy — not subject knowledge.
⚠️ Important: Since GA now carries more weight across both tiers, candidates who used to deprioritize it in favor of Maths and Reasoning are having to rebalance their study time this cycle.
What This Means for Your Study Plan
Where to Start
If you're building a preparation routine around this syllabus, structure your practice around actual exam-pattern questions and previous year papers (PYQs) rather than generic question banks — the SSC CGL question style is distinct enough that general aptitude prep won't fully transfer.
